Luke Tale A Story of Unconditional Love edition by Carol McKibben Literature Fiction eBooks

I like to stretch my literary horizons, and when something different comes along, I will often check it out. Carol McKibben is a masterful writer who portrays the emotional struggles of a young couple through the eyes of Luke, a yellow lab.

It takes skill to make a reader suspend believe and go with the flow. Within a page or two, I accepted the human qualities of Luke, and wanted to know where the story was going. I got right into the story and read 80 pages the first night.

I like mystery novels, and when Luke was trying to give his master (not really a good word in this case) clues about where the Ash's long-time friend, Sara, was, I really got into it. Each day, Luke would bring Ash objects Sara had owned. And each time, he failed to get the message.

I don't want to spoil the story by giving too many details. I will say that the author was able to bring tears to my eyes. Yet, there was hope and, of course, as the title says, "unconditional love."

Highly recommended!

Luke Tale A Story of Unconditional Love edition by Carol McKibben Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

You need not be an animal lover to love this book, if you are it will tug at your heartstrings even more. Beautifully written with a lesson that every one can learn from. It seems that our lives and those around us are so full of ME, ME, ME, that we don't stop to think how push our ideals of life onto others.Unconditional love is a necessity if we are to live a genuine life and this"tale"helps us see how we can bring this kind of love into our lives. A must read and definitely worth five stars!!
A sweet, grab-you-from-the-first book. Who doesn't love dogs? Who believes dogs understand what we're doing? Luke narrates the story of his family, their trials and tribulations, through sickness and health. His goal is to help others and he succeeds.
It took me a while to read this wonderful book. It isn't long, but it is so potent with messages that reached into my heart and my intellect that I kept reading, then contemplating, then reading more. It was a journey that took me through a variety of emotions. This tale, told through the eyes of a dog, is multi tiered and beyond the message about unconditional love (that a dog is uniquely capable of) and the lesson that Luke teaches us about love, forgiveness, and compassion, it also has one additional message that resonated to me. Like Luke, we can choose our actions and reactions, choosing to be happy, choosing to be giving, choosing to love unconditionally. Carol writes beautifully, blessing us with a literary masterpiece that is life changing when you read between the lines. It is a must read on so many levels and worth a re-read whenever we're in need of introspection.
Luke's Tale A Story of Unconditional Love
I highly recommend Luke's Tale, a romance between two people who fight

against all odds. Luke stays right by their side to make sure they stay

in love. I like the idea of Luke's point of view telling the story as

seen through his eyes; the eyes of a yellow Labrador retriever who

knows what unconditional love is all about. I have been an avid reader

for over 40 years and I can say that Luke's Tale is a page turner! Carol

McKibben is a gifted writer with a poetic style all her own. She has the

ability of bringing her characters to life from the first page. Luke, the

main character has the uncanny ability to understand human conversations

and actions. Luke finds it very easy to visualize and I do too. When I read

a good book, I can see it unfold like a movie in my head. I could see right

away that both Ashlundt and Sara needed help because they are both at a crisis

point in their lives. Rather than pulling together, Sara makes arrangements

to go through her cancer treatments without Ashlundt. She tries to shield him

because she doesn't believe that he can handle the strong emotions of watching

someone he loves go through cancer. Later we learn that Ash had experienced

a family tragedy when he was younger and he never got over it. Luke and Sara

have a special emotional place where he listens to Sara or offers her a Luke

hug and licks away tears from the human he loves so much. Luke not only knows

that there is a problem with Sara, but more importantly, Luke's extraordinary

sense that dogs have reveals a secret that Sara can't share with Ashlundt. Luke

can smell the cancer in Sara. Ashlundt's malpractice legal case was painful

and costly. He felt helpless and he began to back away from life. He lost all

faith in his ability to solve his problems and rebuild his practice. Sara knew

she couldn't prevent Ashlundt's fall into the black hole of depression. She

must make a decision that involves her own life. These two were so happy when

they met and fell in love. Ashlundt had just lost his dog Bear when they met and

Luke soon joined the family as a new puppy. In order to keep a relationship vibrant

and alive, unconditional love must be part of the relationship. If not, there is no

anchor and two people who used to be so in love begin to drift apart. Unconditional

love is the glue that holds everything together. Luke is so full of unconditional

love that he takes it upon himself to help his humans restore that part of their

relationship. Ash must know on some level that there is something wrong with

Sara but his self-centered depression prevents him from seeing the truth. By the

time Ash realizes something is really wrong with Sara, she has walked out of his

life and he can't find her. I love the antics that Luke thinks up. They are

brilliant. For example, he is good at turning on a light with his nose. He uses his

paw to maneuver a charm bracelet out of Sara's dresser. He was so funny trying to

think of things to get Ash's attention so he would do something to find Sara. Luke

was a dog on a mission and he was not going to give up on his humans. He had a one

track mind when it came to getting Ashlundt and Sara back together. Therapy Dogs

are introduced later into the story and it is a wonderful idea. Luke is a perfect

example of helping others by adding a quality of life to patients. I have a two

year old Dachshund named Max and he could be considered my Therapy dog. Max

helped me through the rough times while I was recuperating from my own cancer.

In conclusion, I learned so much and enjoyed reading Luke's Tale getting to know

the characters in the book. I won't say much more because I don't want to give the

story away. Set some time aside because Luke's Tale is the kind of book that you

don't want to put down. Having gone through cancer myself, I know how important

unconditional love, family, friends, and faith is in order to fight this monster

called cancer. I am also looking forward to the new book by Carol McKibben.
This book has moments of great joy and great sorrow. I cried like a baby through parts of it. It was especially intense for me since I had to have my 15 y/o cat euthanized a couple of weeks ago due to intestinal cancer. The characters were portrayed in a very realistic way, giving in to hurt and pain, running from emotions and ultimately learning to love unconditionally through the help of a golden retriever, Luke.

It was my privilege to partner with a wonderful 120 lb golden retriever for 14 years and I knew he was aware of my feelings and was there for me through thick and thin. I have always believed that animals are much more intelligent, resourceful and emotional than we have given them credit for.

I have seen reviews that knocked off stars because of punctuation errors and other issues, but honestly, I was so involved in the book I never noticed a single one (normally I do).
